The Importance of Rest

I really thank God for people with great wisdom around me.

Parents.
Brothers.
My Maid.

And especially Rachel and Jieyun :).

So this post is a reply to the one on Rachel's Blog entitled "Rest".

As human beings, God created us to to work hard and be fruitful. But, he has also created us to enjoy rest. When I mean rest, it means complete, absolute, don't-do-anything-stressful-kind-of rest.

So some of you may ask, isn't resting equivalent to laziness and being slothful?

Well, lets refer to the bible to see what God says about rest. In Genesis 2V3, it says that:

"...God blessed the Seventh Day and sanctified it, because in it he rested from all His work which he had created and made..."

So we can see that this is the day that God rested from all that He had done. It is the only time in the Bible that we hear of God resting. It does not say that God was tired, but there was a complete cessation from work.

Lets continue to look at another passage which talk about rest, and the Sabbath day. In Leviticus 25V4-5, it says that:

"...during the seventh year, the land shall have a Sabbath rest, a Sabbath to the Lord; you shall not sow your field nor prune your vineyard. Your harvest's aftergrowth you shall not reap and your grapes of untrimmed vines you shall not gather; the land shall have a sabbatical year."

Wow! This means that the whole year round, there isn't a need for the people to work for their crops; because God mentions in the next verse, that he will provide sabbath products for everyone, including the animals as well. So we can see that God really takes the period of sabbath very seriously. (That's also how you get the term "Sabbatical" which means to go on a long period of no-pay leave/course)

What is true in the natural realm, is also true in the spiritual realm! It is common sense that indeed we are not God. But as human beings, we do get tired sometimes and it is IMPORTANT for us to set aside time to rest and recuperate. This "sabbath" of yours doesn't have to be on Sunday alone, nor does it have to be one day only, but it can also be on other days of the week as well. :)

But also, have not each of us, at one time or another, put a lot of effort into doing something, and even though we were not tired, we just sat back and relaxed and reflected on what we had done. Did not such resting and reflection refresh us?

So guys, please take your rest when you need to. God cannot use you if you are sick/tired/weary.

And Chris rested on this very Saturday

55.5 Mol/Dm3 of Faith

I was challenged today.
No.
I was challenged for the rest of my days.

Its amazing what mustard seed faith can do.
Simple, yet powerful faith.
Being sure of what we hope for.
Being certain of what we don't see.
Faith that can move mountains.

It REALLY moved mountains this week.

NTU
It was two of us.
Pauline. Me.
To reach out to 4 people.
Sounds easy?
Not really.
Nerves took us. Nerves paralysed us.
Its as if we've never done this before.
3 Girls with different faiths.
1 Guy with a confused faith.
But God moved.
And they let us meet them again!
Its a small start.
But its a mountain moved.

Katong Hostel
I didn't know what was going on.
But I went.
And I was glad I went.
23 South Africans/Nigerians.
Somewhat - Doubled to 40.
In a day.
In ONE day.
A week fresh in Singapore. Looking for a church.
Isn't coincidence.
Its GODincidence.
ALL, if not most wanted to come back.
For Church. For MINISTRY. For the Word. For God.
Amazing.

My faith leaped.
Leaped a few million kms.
For God.
For my family.
For my friends.
For my CG.
For the GUYS in my CG.
For me.

Music and Cake

In music, there is this thing called a melody; which symbolizes the "catchy tune" in all genres of music that we sing today, as well as a harmony; which the stuff that is NOT the melody. For all you people that don't really read music, the melody is like the icing of a cake, and the harmony is like the rest of the cake (for the lack of a better analogy)

Sometimes we tend to think of ourselves as invidualistic people, people that think for me, myself and I. We tend to think of ourselves as the icing on the cake, the flowery goodness, the primadonna. However, we seem to care less about the ugly, distasteful, although sometimes hard to digest even, rest of the cake. Yes, we may be able to survive alone, but how long can we do so without being miserable? There may be people around us which could potentially make our lives better.

Its time for us to put away those royal glasses and learn to co-operate with others. A house divided against itself will fall, a car without its wheels cannot move, a band without its people cannot function.

Jesus himself was the prime example of an individual that learned to co-operate with others. His life didn't revolve around himself claiming that he was the "high and mighty" Messiah that would laugh at the condemnation of mankind. He personally came down from heaven to die on the cross for our sins, so that we may be saved. Yes, Jesus did struggle with God with regards to his final purpose on earth, but he did co-operate with God. He could have just abandoned the entire idea of being a Saviour and have a holiday on earth, but he didn't. It was hard, but because of that sacrifice, we all can remain connected to God!

The cake itself is called a "cake" because of the combination of the icing, as well as the rest of the cake. The rest of the cake will look ugly without the lovely icing and toppings. Conversely, the icing looks rather pointless without the rest of the cake as substance. Neither can exist without the other.

The melody can stand alone, but it will probably get boring soon enough. The harmony, together with the melody, allows the song to have a dynamic and ever-fresh edge to it.
